Intense

Hey cool people of the web, Just a little update to tell you all how I'm getting on with my battle against electric...

The effects to myself have been minimal, this being because I have spent the last few days trying to get a cripplingly difficult assignment finished in the library. So I have been with warmth, endless computer time and as much electric as I want. woohoo!

However!!!

The effects to the flat are intense. The living room has been without electric for three days. Now I'm not sure if you have ever denied your living room of electricity for three whole days, but it has essentially turned into a giant fridge. Not only is the room cold...but the door handle to get into the room is also icy cold!! They could honestly use the room to shoot the second "day after tommorow" film.

Also, many of the lightbulbs have blown in the flat and I haven't/won't do anything about it, so it's now at the point where I'm using a tiny little kitchen lightbulb to light the whole kitchen and hallway. And when I have to switch that off to go to bed, I am confronted with a long, pitch black, cold walk through the hallway trying not to hit any walls with my face.

But other than that, I'm managing quite ok...SCREW YOU ELECTRIC! I'm winning.

The backstory

Ok peeps, I'm Garry, a journalism student from the U.K, I'm new to blogging but hopefully you will find my posts over the next few months both funny and slightly moving :). So let me tell you about the single envelope that provoked me to start blogging.

I moved into my beautiful new flat in september 2011 with my girlfriend (mags) and my older cousin (julia). We have excellent river views and we are in a stunning location... The run up to xmas was full of studying, nights out with friends, a little more studying, small gatherings in our flat, studying, and getting tipsy a few too many times. All was well...for now!

Christmas was great, good to see the family and eat my bodyweight in chocolate. And I don't even want to think about how many christmas films I watched. I returned home for new year because the nightlife is a lot better near my flat and that is where I remained until 'the incident'.

It was January 11th 2012, I was on my way to meet with some friends at the union bar where I work when I decided I'd call at my letter box in the flat entrance to check the mail. There it was... a little white envelope which was sitting rather comfortably considering the damage it was about to cause to my stress levels.

I reached into the letter box, still not realising the evilness of the letter in my hand. I quickly opened the letter as I was in a hurry to meet with friends. The letter was stamped at the top with the word "Ecotricity". It was my electricity bill which comes every 3 months. I read in horror. your bill from the date of october 16th to January 10th is £620.53.

my emotions went a little like this... :o  :s  :/  :(  :'(

Problem :- I use too much electricity.

Mission:- Over the next 3 months I intend to use as little electricity in the flat as humanly possible. No matter how extreme the conditions get. I WILL BEAT THE ELECTRIC COMPANY!

Any encouragement would be great people, tough times lie ahead...
